Whitall House Shuttered for Plaster, Mold Repairs

The Revolutionary War-era home, the centerpiece of Red Bank Battlefield Park, should reopen within about three weeks.

The Whitall House at has been temporarily closed by the county Department of Parks and Recreation as part of restoration work.

Debra Sellitto, public information director for Gloucester County, said the closure is a precautionary measure, due to ongoing plaster repairs and the need to clean up mold found during work on the second floor.

The repairs are part of a $136,254 grant from the state Historic Trust, which is also going toward making the Revolutionary War-era Georgian home more handicap-accessible.
