Republicans Sweep West Deptford Township Committee Vote

According to unofficial results, Jeff Hansen and Jerry Maher outperformed their Democratic opponents at the polls in a close race.

West Deptford Republicans solidified their grasp on the township committee on Election Day, going two-for-two on the seats vacated by the non-returning Deputy Mayor Sean Kilpatrick (R) and Committeewoman Donna Szymborski (D).

Jeff Hansen and Jerry Maher will join fellow Republicans Mayor Ray Chintall and Committeeman Sam Cianfarini at the head of the township municipal government, according to unofficial results from the Gloucester County Board of Elections.

Hansen was the leading vote-getter of the race, with 3,644, or 26.76 percent of the 13,617 votes cast. Maher was second, with 3,415 (25.08 percent).

"It was a very close election," said Democrat Adam Reid, who finished 99 votes behind Maher at 3,316 (24.35 percent).

"I just want to wish the opposition the best of luck," Reid said. "Jim [Robinson, Jr.] and I did the best we could, put up a good fight as far as getting our message out there."

"We’re very disappointed," said Robinson, Jr., who garnered 3,227 votes (23.70 percent). "We thought we were the best two candidates. The voters decided otherwise, and we respect that, and we’ll move on from there."

Calls to Hansen and Maher were not returned Tuesday night.
