West Deptford Resident to Visit Nicaraguan Orphanage

Katie Duffield, who owns the K Bella Boutique in Collingswood and Browse Around Cottage in Clermont, NJ, will be visiting the country on a service project.

While you're enjoying the sights and sounds of autumn in West Deptford this October, your neighbor Katie Duffield will be delivering supplies to children who live on the outskirts of a trash dump in Managua, Nicaragua.

Duffield was one of three business owners chosen by the Bridgewater Candle Company—products she retails in her Collingswood shop, K Bella Boutique—to participate in the "brand experience service project" Oct. 11-14.

The trip will be paid for by Bridgewater as part of its charitable partnership, "Light a Candle, Feed a Child," with the nonprofit Rice Bowls, which delivers food to orphaned children.

Duffield, who established her store with a focus on sustainable goods and fair trade business practices, was thrilled to share the news.

"I am truly so excited and honored to be going on this trip," Duffield told Patch in an e-mail.

"It's something that I always wanted to do but never thought I would get this type of opportunity."

On October 11, "the group will travel to Nicaragua and spend time delivering supplies to an impoverished community on the outskirts of a trash dump in Managua," a Bridgewater press release reads.

"The group will then continue on to the orphanage and spend time getting to know the kids and complete a service project."

Friends and neighbors can support Duffield's trip by donating toothbrushes and toothpaste at K Bella until Sept. 13. Those who contribute to the cause will get 10 percent off a $25 purchase.

K Bella Boutique is located at 684 Haddon Ave. in Collingswood.
