With the National Weather Service warning of severe thunderstorms Saturday evening, West Deptford officials have called off the evening entertainment for .
Both the fireworks and concert, which were scheduled to start at 7 p.m., will be rescheduled for a later date, though that has yet to be determined, township administrator Eric Campo said.
"In the interest of safety, we have to make this decision in advance," Campo said.
Mayor Ray Chintall and Deputy Mayor Sean Kilpatrick huddled over a weather forecast on Kilpatrick's phone in the early afternoon, and pointed to the rising risk of thunderstorms later in the day.
"It's not looking good," Kilpatrick said.
Chintall echoed that concern, and said the chance of dangerous weather is too much of a risk to let the show go on.
"You don't want to be where that severe line is," he said.
Both events will be rescheduled as part of another event at some point this fall, Campo said, though that has yet to be determined.
