South Jersey Mom Joins Glitz of Emmys

Kristen Munoz will showcase her clothing line at the pre-Emmys Boom Boom Room. But it's more than just exposure she wants—Munoz is hunting for a multiple sclerosis cure.

Kristen Munoz is going Hollywood. Or, rather, her clothing line is.

When television stars gather in Los Angeles this weekend for the 64th primetime Emmys, Munoz will be in thick of things, promoting her clothing-for-a-cause line, Eva & Estela Wear Ur Love.

The Williamstown entrepreneur was invited to set up shop at the Boom Boom Room, an annual pre-Emmy event that gifts children’s clothing to celebrity parents. Soon, Munoz’s fashions could be seen on Tinseltown tykes.

And while the little fashion plates may not realize it, their new duds help support a cause dear to Munoz’s family, finding a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS).

It was just a few years ago when Munoz’s husband, Ryan, started having health problems. Already recovering from recent layoffs, it floored the couple to learn Ryan’s persistent health issues, thought to be related to a college baseball injury, were actually tied to MS. The shock was compounded by yet more layoffs. During those years, the couple’s two daughters, Eva and Estela, were born.

The couple dug deep, sustained their family and their relationship, and decided the years of hardship wouldn’t be for nothing. Out of that, Munoz created Eva & Estela Wear Ur Love.

More than just a fashion line for kids, part of the company’s profits go to the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, which supports efforts to find an MS cure.

Munoz has been busy just getting the business off of the ground, not to mention caring for two active young girls. So she certainly wasn’t expecting a call inviting her to showcase her line at the Boom Boom Room on Sept. 21-22.

“We’re more, more than thrilled,” she said ahead of the trip. “We didn’t look for this—we weren’t even aware something like this existed. It’s so exciting to be part of and we definitely want to take advantage of the trip.”

That means both getting attention for her fledging line and promoting efforts to find a cure for MS.

It also means celebrating how far Ryan has come and how healthy he has stayed, thanks to a mix of therapies and regimes to treat his MS symptoms. Coincidentally, the Emmys line up with a trip the family already had planned to Oregon for Ryan's induction into George Fox University's sports hall of fame for his baseball triumphs. Then they’ll head south for Los Angeles.

Munoz plans to bring “a little bit of everything” of her designs to the Boom Boom Room. And what celebrity parents is she hoping to meet at the gift suite?

“Oh, I’m not sure! I try to keep up with everything, but it’s hard to read US Weekly with two kids,” she said with a laugh. “But we’re going to get a list and I’ll study up on the names and faces before I get there.”
