Weigh In, West Deptford: Nov. 9—Too Early for Santa?

Kris Kringle is coming to the Deptford Mall two weeks before Thanksgiving and the week after Halloween. Are you feeling the holiday shopping pressure yet?

We've already seen the holiday retail season pushing back into the Thanksgiving holiday earlier and earlier every year, as businesses trying to wring the most dollars out of customers offer incentives even earlier than Black Friday or its online cousin, Cyber Monday.

This year, the Deptford Mall will try to jumpstart the shopping season with a full-scale holiday blitz three full weeks before the turkey-and-football family day.

Photos of Santa will be available starting Thursday, November 7—you have to wait until Nov. 24 to bring your pets—with "a festive holiday parade" starting Saturday, November 9.

The National Retail Federation predicts that shoppers will spend less this year even as it forecasts that overall sales will increase, which poses a confusing picture in a down economy.

What do you think, West Deptford? Is November 9 too early to see Santa, or is an earlier Christmas shopping season better for the economy? Tell us in the comments.
