Your Pace or Mine?

Six minutes? Eight? Eleven? Twenty minutes? What’s your pace? Does it really matter?

I used to be faster. Much faster. I ran a 5k (in a Batman costume) in 22:51 a few years ago through Riverwinds. That was a 7:22 mile! Now, I can barely run a 5k without stopping.

But I’m running. Jogging. Trying.

It doesn’t matter that I run slower. Or get tired faster. I know I am doing whatever I can whenever I can to run.

I hope not to embarrass anyone–this will be completely anonymous.

Today, I spoke to two people about running.

The first, hesitant in stating that her pace was a ten minute mile, overlooked that she could run 3.5 miles without stopping. She runs four times a week, with one of them being a speed workout. That’s more than I’ve ever done!

The second wanted to tell me she (re)started running 5 weeks ago and was now up to four minutes running/four minutes walking for 35 total minutes after years of not running. How awesome!

Who cares about how fast you go? Who cares about how far you go?

Please be happy with yourself. Be happy with whatever your pace may be. Be happy with any run. Be happy.
