Former Rowan University President Dies

Dr. Mark Chamberlain died Saturday at the age of 82.

Former Rowan University President Dr. Mark Chamberlain died on Saturday at the age of 82.

Chamberlain was president of the school when it was known as Glassboro State College from 1969-1984.

Dr. Mark M. Chamberlain, age 82, of Williamstown died March 29, 2014.

Born in Rhode Island, Dr. Chamberlain lived in Glassboro before moving to Williamstown 26 yrs ago.

Dr. Chamberlain was the president of Glassboro State College from 1969-1984. From 1985-2000, he was a professor of chemistry at Rowan University.  In April, 2006, Rowan University renamed their student center the Chamberlain Student Center after Dr. Mark Chamberlain.

He was a volunteer firefighter for many years in Glassboro.  Dr. Chamberlain was also an active member of Friends of Gettysburg National Park and St. Mark's at the Crossing Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Barbara Chamberlain; five children, David (Jill) Chamberlain, Mark Douglas Chamberlain, Matthew Chamberlain, Caryn (Mario) Quieti, and Sheryl (William Jr.) Sobiesiak; ten grandchildren, and five great granddaughters.

Viewing will be Wed, 6-8pm at NORTON FUNERAL HOME 1232 S. Black Horse Pike Williamstown, NJ.  Funeral service and burial are private.
