Financial Planning, Personal Enrichment Workshops at GCC

Deptford Twp. – The Center for People in Transition at Gloucester County College is offering an assortment of personal finance, healthy living and wellness workshops during the month of October. “Introduction to Computers” — Certified Microsoft Access Developer Lauri Kuder will conduct this 40-hour introductory course on the Microsoft Office Suite. Topics include how to use the Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. It costs $40 for displaced homemakers and $100 for non-displaced homemakers. Sessions are held Wednesdays Oct. 2 to Nov. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

 “Myers-Briggs Type Personality Indicator” — Center for People in Transition Director Jeanne M. LaBuz, MA, SWDP, MBTI, SII Certified, will lead this two-night workshop that explains the psychology behind personality. Knowing what unique behaviors and characteristics an individual has goes a long way in understanding themselves, developing stress coping mechanisms and enhancing interpersonal communication. This is sponsored by the Heart of Gloucester County and costs $100 for non-clients. Space is limited to 12 participants. It meets Wednesdays Oct. 2 and 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Everything Elder Legal Clinic” — Victoria M. Dalton, Esquire, will provide legal information in a wide variety of areas specific to senior citizens. It meets Friday, Oct. 4 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. 

“Medicaid and Long-Term Planning for Elders” — John P. Ciocco, Esquire, will provide legal information regarding Medicaid, trusts, long-term estate planning, elder abuse and more. It meets Monday, Oct. 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“Financial Aspects of Divorce” — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will explain a broad range of monetary issues that individuals face when going through divorce. This workshop is designed to help individuals avoid costly mistakes, clarify expectations and begin planning for a “successful” divorce. It meets Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Widowhood: Financial Perspective” — Financial Advisor Monique Castillo will explain the financial realities widows face and the steps necessary to ease the transition. She will also provide an actionable checklist and booklet summarizing key concepts to keep all participants on track after the workshop. It meets Thursday, Oct. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Money Management for Partners and Children” — Tiffany W. Thurman, program manager of FinaciallyHERS at Clarifi, will share the best practices for opening conversations about money management with either a partner and/or children. She will also provide strategies through which individuals can financially empower their children regardless of their age. Participants must be 18 years of age to attend. This is sponsored in part by the Heart of Gloucester County. It meets Monday, Oct. 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“How to Avoid Costly Housing Mistakes Before, During and After Divorce” — RE/MAX Connection Agent Brian Ziegenfuss will explain how to protect one’s desired interest in the sale of a home and to maximize profits. Issues of lifestyle changes, new budgets and housing affordability will also be addressed. It meets Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Feng Shui” — The art of Feng Shui involves the management of living space to bring about peace, balance and harmony. Workshop facilitator Loretta Anthony will share how to place furniture, maneuver objects and use colors to achieve tranquility and happiness in one’s surroundings. Feng Shui can help individuals to become more prosperous in their health, career and relationships. Individuals should bring a copy of their floor plan, if possible. It will meet Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“Mobile Banking” — Tiffany W. Thurman, program manager of FinaciallyHERS at Clarifi, will share facts about mobile banking. Talking points include what mobile banking is, how to use the app and how to ensure your safety and privacy while doing so. This is sponsored in part by the Heart of Gloucester County. It meets Monday, Oct. 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Understanding Your Investments” — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will share information to help participants better understand investments and to plan for their financial future. Topics include stocks versus bonds, mutual funds and tax-deferred investing, risk management and estate planning techniques. It meets Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. 

“Changing Roles of Women in Today’s Workplace” — People in Transition facilitator Eileen Adezio will help individuals to better prepare themselves to meet employers’ expectations in today’s competitive job market. Discussion topics include how to get your resume noticed, effective interview skills and the importance of networking. Appropriate attire for the workplace, challenges unique to women and industry cultures are among topics explored.  This is sponsored in part by the Women’s Leadership Council and the United Way of
Gloucester County. It meets Monday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.
