Letter: Another Sheep in the Herd This Election Season

The letter writer's friend has a civic attitude that gets under his skin.

To the Editor:

My wife and I moved to West Deptford seven years ago. Having lived in Camden County for 34 years, we saw firsthand how corruption in government can take hold when one party rule has been in power for too long.

When recently talking to a retired friend, I mentioned that I’ve become interested in township government. I attend the monthly township meetings to see how my tax money is being spent. Since the new administration took over in 2012, more residents have been attending as the auditorium is always full. I have learned at these meetings the township was operating with no general ledger, bogus water bills, millions of dollars missing from the RiverWinds golf course construction, millions wasted fighting the Sunoco refinery, etc., etc.

I encouraged her to attend the meetings and become a more informed resident and voter. Each meeting something new is presented—it’s truly unbelievable. When I asked her if she cared how her tax money was being spent, she answered that she has never attended a township meeting and doesn’t get involved in politics. I mentioned the presidential election coming up in November, but also important the election for township committee and she should familiarize herself with the candidates.

Her response to me was complacent and apathetic. She said to me quote: “Oh, I used to be in a union, so I always vote Democrat.” So there you have it. My friend, who unfortunately can’t be bothered to think for herself, is just another sheep in the herd.

Great Letter, Bill!! Sad, but, true!! .
Wayne Klotz October 09, 2012 at 07:45 PM
At least she's smart!
Occupant October 09, 2012 at 09:50 PM
You've got to be kidding... right? If you think she's smart, that reads volumes about you. So you prefer to put your head in the sand and not think of whom or why you are voting? That's what gave us Nancy Pelosi, Harry Ried, Barbara Boxer, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Maxine Waters etc. etc. Common Wayne get real my friend.

All good people! the woman has a right to vote who ever she wants to, occupant! Makes you mad dosen't!!!
Occupant October 09, 2012 at 11:10 PM
Of course she had the right to vote, but she doesn't even care who's running. She blindly votes the party line. That's ok, but she should at least check out the candidates. What makes me mad are ignorant people, the world is full of them and that's too bad. I didn't say you were ignorant Wayne, but it makes me start to wonder . Hmmmmm!
Blah Blah Bill October 09, 2012 at 11:55 PM
Bill you are just another puppet of Sam, Ray, and Bill Fey. Is that why they put you on the planning/zoning board to be their lackey?
Wayne Klotz October 10, 2012 at 11:25 AM
Me to about you, occupant!
Bill Bondar October 10, 2012 at 11:28 AM

I dont think anyone is going to be able to "check out" the candidates Occupant, because Hansen pushed the debate all the way back to November 2nd on a friday night, 4 days before the election. Who want to spend their friday night watching two local politicians debate. But then again, I think this was Hansen's plan all along so nobody could see his lack of knowledge on the issues.
Wayne Klotz October 10, 2012 at 02:18 PM
William, you hit the nail on the head!!
al henry October 10, 2012 at 02:52 PM
Both candidates decided on the debate date. Not just Hanson's decision,.. Copied from original patch story,.. Late is better than never, as Committeewoman Denice Dicarlo and Jeff Hansen set a date and venue for the town committee debate. Both have decided on Nov. 2 at the RiverWinds Community Center as the official date and venue.
Wayne Klotz October 10, 2012 at 03:40 PM
Sorry al, but the only reason Denice deceided on this day is the fact that mr. Hansen did not want to debate that was fine with ms. DICARLO! WHY? and why this day that mr. Hansen and friends knew was a football nite?!
redneckwillie3 October 10, 2012 at 08:22 PM
Wayne what is your pie hole gonna say when Denise loses. you dems are like stink bugs can't get rid of em. Hansen don't need a debate,a chat session or any other type of communication. According to phone calls being made the soft dems and the independents are fed up with the corruption in this town,so Hnasen in Dicarlo out.Denise's farewell song na na na na hey hey hey goodbye.
Wayne Klotz October 10, 2012 at 11:18 PM
Redneckwillie3, I was wondering when you were going to write a senseless article! now I can laugh and still say to you and your friends! what are you afraid of! Answer a DICARLO landslide victory!!!!have a nice day, Willie!!!
Occupant October 11, 2012 at 11:25 AM
Wayne my boy, A DiCarlo win is your loss and West Deptfords... It means going backwards in time... If your independently wealthy, you will be able to afford higher taxes and more debt she will bring. Good Luck with that.
Wayne Klotz October 11, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Jennifer, You're welcome to repost your comment, which had valid points, without bringing unsubstantiated accusations about any candidate's family into the discussion. Thanks.
