Matthew Harris's Economic Plan for South Jersey

This week, Democratic candidate for New Jersey’s First Congressional District Matthew Harris released his position paper on encouraging economic growth in South Jersey.

“South Jersey can no longer afford limited economic growth that produces meager job opportunities for families and students,” said Harris.  “If our communities and citizens want to begin to create economic growth for the next generation, we need to start today and we need a vision.”

Harris, who is challenging 23-year incumbent Rob Andrews, argues how the lack of a coordinated regional plan has stifled South Jersey’s economic growth for the past 20 years.

“Congressman Rob Andrews hasn’t put forth an economic growth plan in the many years he has represented South Jersey.  I think addressing South Jersey’s stifled economic growth is a top priority, and we can no longer afford to wait another 20 years for a vision and a plan,” said Harris.

In the paper, Harris wants to create a Biotechnology Corridor along Route 55 in Gloucester County.  Harris outlines several ways to incentivize economic growth and attract new industries including the construction of a Camden-Glassboro commuter rail line, the establishment of a Biotechnology Educational Complex, and the creation of a High-Tech Manufacturing Initiative along Route 130 in Camden and Gloucester Counties.

Harris’s position paper on South Jersey economic growth is the first issue brief released by the Matthew Harris for Congress campaign.
