Primary Vote is Critical

In November, West Deptford will hold one of the most important elections in its history. However it all starts on June 7 with the primary election.

**ALERT** There is a primary vote on Tuesday, June 7.

How many people knew that? More importantly, how many people were planning on going to the municipal building or fire hall to vote?

Though this year is not a mid-term, nor a presidential election year, it is important for West Deptford citizens to get out to the voting booths and exercise your right to vote. The township committee has two seats up for grabs in November and there are seven people that want to take them. It is important to filter out those who are not serious about reforming West Deptford.

On the Republican side, Sam Cianfarini and Ray Chintall are going up against Loran Ogelsby and Matt Mahon. Already endorsed by the West Deptford GOP, Cianfarini and Chintall seem to be the favorites. The two have been outspoken individuals trying to keep the township committee in check and speak to the big elephant in the room–the township’s enormous debt.

Chintall and Cianfarini are what this township needs; fundamental business-minded citizens that can change the view of the township committee, and end any speculation of corruption in West Deptford.

Ogelsby and Mahon do not have the same visions as Chintall and Cianfarini have. The two moderate Republicans have not been as outspoken as Ray and Sam, and in my eyes, don't have the same vision that will fix West Deptford.

On the Democratic side, Denise DiCarlo and Hunter Kintzing will run unopposed. The two were given the nod by the Democratic Party, and it was no surprise that Len Daws (an incumbent) was given the boot. The West Deptford Democrats know that this year is critical, and can’t sit back in autopilot as they have in previous years.

DiCarlo and Kintzing have little to no knowledge when it comes to West Deptford issues. Their credibility will be questioned come November, considering they have only been showing up to township committee meetings recently and do not have a clear-cut vision on changing the stigma of “business as usual” in West Deptford.

This is why the June 7 primary is critical and important to voice your opinion. This year’s election could be one of the most important elections in West Deptford history. The debt is growing faster than ever, RiverWinds has been mismanaged and financed poorly, and the people holding the committee seats right now have failed us.

The right candidates need to be put into place for the general election in November, to get West Deptford back on the right path. It all starts with the primary on June 7.

Having a voter turnout less than 1,000 is ridiculous, and embarrassing. The government has given you a voice, so use it. It is the beauty of America.
