100 MPH Chase Ends in West Deptford with 2 Arrested for Burglary
In addition to charges for eluding police, Mark Gannon of Woodbury and Daniel Bennis of Westville may have been responsible for home burglaries in two counties, police said.
Written and reported by Bill Duhart.
Two Gloucester County men were arrested Friday after eluding Gloucester Township Police on a 100-mph chase on Route 42.
Police eventually aborted the chase, but not before obtaining the driver's license plate number, which they used to trace the car back to the West Deptford home to which it was registered.
There, they arrested Woodbury resident Mark Gannon, 44, and 25-year-old Daniel Bennis of Westville.
Gannon was charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary. As the driver of the vehicle, he received a further charge for eluding police. Bennis was charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Both men were remanded to the Camden County correctional facility; Gannon was held on $125,000 bail, Bennis on $75,000 bail.
The incident started in the 100 Block of Furman Drive, in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township.
A neighbor called police shortly after 2:30 p.m. Friday when he saw the men and thought they had just burglarized a home. They fled before police arrived, but the neighbor followed them in a car and relayed their location to police.
Officers found the vehicle on Evesham Road and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle fled quickly when the cops turned on their emergency warning lights, police said, speeding towards the Deptford Mall before turning onto Route 42 northbound.
Woodbury police found the vehicle in the 1100 block of Lewis Terrace of Woodbury and saw stolen items in its rear, Gloucester Township police said.
Investigators said they believe the men are also responsible for other burglaries and thefts throughout Camden and Gloucester counties.
