CamCo Cops Target Suburban Buyers in Drug Bust

More than 64 arrests were made in the two-day operation last week, including five residents of Wenonah, Deptford, Mantua, Thorofare and Woodbury.

Residents of Wenonah, Deptford, Mantua, Thorofare and Woodbury were among nearly four dozen alleged drug buyers arrested in a sting targeting suburban purchasers of heroin, cocaine and crack-cocaine in Camden City.

Melissa Rowan, 28, of Wenonah; William Lewis, 21, of Mantua; Phillip Franchi, 32, and Doug Bateman, 24, of Deptford and Paul Sieyes, 27, of Thorofare were all arrested in two operations last week, Camden County police said. Lewis was arrested twice in two days.

In all, 36 of the 45 arrests made were of residents from the immediate New Jersey suburbs, as well as from Philadelphia. Police charged all 45 with loitering to commit a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) offense, which carries the potential of a six-month jail sentence and a fine of up to $1,000.

Police also went after 19 alleged dealers, making arrests in North Camden, Whitman Park and other areas of the city, charging them all with drug possession with the intent to distribute—in several cases, either within 1,000 feet of a school or 500 feet of a park or public housing facility.

Charged in Wednesday’s sweep in North Camden were:
