Chad Gatewood Charged with Murder in Nephew's Stabbing in Deptford

Gatewood allegedly killed his nephew, Elijah P. Gatewood-Gabriel, after an argument early Friday morning.

A family argument led to the murder of a Deptford man early Friday morning, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office (GCPO).

Chad Gatewood, 45, and his nephew, Elijah P. Gatewood-Gabriel, 20, allegedly got in a confrontation around midnight, when Gatewood stabbed Gatewood-Gabriel multiple times with a kitchen knife in the family's apartment at the Inverness Apartments on Delsea Drive in Deptford, GCPO spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said.

After police and medics were alerted via a 12:01 a.m. 911 call, Gatewood-Gabriel was taken to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, where he was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m., Weisenfeld said, and an autopsy Friday confirmed Gatewood-Gabriel died of the stab wounds.

The victim's mother, who lived with the two men, was present during the attack and tried to stop the argument, Weisenfeld said.
