An incident of domestic violence turned deadly in Glassboro Monday night, when a woman in her 50s was fatally shot on Sherwood Lane, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said.

Her ex-husband, who has been charged with murder, is in custody after fleeing from the home in a Jeep Wrangler, Weisenfeld said. He was caught just after midnight near Pole Tavern Circle in Pittgrove Township, Salem County, after a brief foot chase, Weisenfeld said.

He's currently in the crisis unit at Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, Weisenfeld said, and bail will be set later today.

The woman is not being identified, pending notification of her family members.

The couple were the only occupants of the home, and no one else was injured in the incident, Weisenfeld said.

The Gloucester County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy, and Weisenfeld said additional details will be provided later Tuesday.
