A National Park man who struck a 52-year-old man in the head with a baseball bat, giving him multiple skull fractures now faces seven years in New Jersey state prison.
The incident occurred in 2009, when 21-year-old Brandon M. Prosser was a juvenile, according to a statement from the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
The victim, who was in a relationship with Prosser's mother, had been sleeping on a sofa in Prosser's home.
In pleading guilty to the attack, Prosser admitted that his actions were "reckless" and manifested "extreme indifference to human life," according to the statement.
A negotiated plea means Prosser faces a recommended sentence of seven years in New Jersey state prison, 85 percent of which he must serve before he is parole-eligible.
Prosser's sentencing is scheduled for January 17, 2014, two days after he turns 22.
