National Park Man Pleads Guilty to Baseball Bat Assault

Brandon M. Prosser is facing seven years in New Jersey state prison.

A National Park man who struck a 52-year-old man in the head with a baseball bat, giving him multiple skull fractures now faces seven years in New Jersey state prison.

The incident occurred in 2009, when 21-year-old Brandon M. Prosser was a juvenile, according to a statement from the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

The victim, who was in a relationship with Prosser's mother, had been sleeping on a sofa in Prosser's home.

In pleading guilty to the attack, Prosser admitted that his actions were "reckless" and manifested "extreme indifference to human life," according to the statement.

A negotiated plea means Prosser faces a recommended sentence of seven years in New Jersey state prison, 85 percent of which he must serve before he is parole-eligible.

Prosser's sentencing is scheduled for January 17, 2014, two days after he turns 22.
