Paulsboro Man Gets Three Years for Truck Theft, High-Speed Chase

Seth J. Gaunt, 19, led police on a chase through Gloucester and Camden counties into Philadelphia in 2010.

A Paulsboro man who stole a pickup truck and led police on a high-speed chase up Route 295 through a half-dozen Gloucester County towns in 2010 will spend three years in state prison after being sentenced on eluding and theft convictions Friday.

Seth J. Gaunt, 19, was only seven months past his 18th birthday when he took the truck on Oct. 15, 2010, and sped off at 80 miles per hour up the interstate, with his lights off, before crossing the Walt Whitman Bridge.

He was finally arrested in South Philadelphia after hitting and injuring a Philadelphia police officer.

Gaunt pleaded guilty to the crimes on Oct. 31, 2011; in addition to the concurrent three-year terms for theft and eluding, Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson also suspended Gaunt’s license for 10 years and ordered him to pay $3,800 for damage to the stolen truck.

While he was getting convicted on those charges, Gaunt also pleaded guilty to a separate incident, where he drove drunk with a suspended license in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, on May 22, 2010. He received a $750 fine and a six-month license suspension under that plea.
