Prosecutor: Person Of Interest ID'd in Thirza Sweeten's Death

The investigation into Gloucester County's first murder of 2012 is continuing, officials said.

A person of interest in the murder of 79-year-old Thirza Sweeten in Paulsboro has been identified and the investigation is progressing, Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said Tuesday.

Work during the day by Paulsboro police and the prosecutor’s office led to at least one person being labeled of interest in , though Dalton did not identify that individual.

Dalton said they’re still seeking more information about what may have happened to Sweeten between Sunday night and Monday evening.

Anyone with information about Sweeten’s death is asked to contact the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office major crimes unit at 856-384-5500 or Paulsboro police at 856-423-1101. Anonymous tips can also be texted—text GLOTIP and your message to CRIMES (274637).

Sweeten was found dead in her gray bungalow at the corner of South Delaware and Jessup streets in Paulsboro Monday evening, after her daughter stopped in to check on her, according to the prosecutor.

The 79-year-old, who had multiple injuries when she was found, had last been seen around 11 p.m. Sunday night, Dalton said.
