South Jersey Man Wanted for 2 Murders Captured

Laurie Wint faces two murder counts; an alleged accomplice remains at large.

Police arrested a Camden man Sunday wanted in two murders, but his alleged accomplice in one of the killings remains at large.

Laurie Wint, 23, of Randolph Street in Camden, was arrested on Rand Street in Camden at 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Police credit an anonymous tipster with providing information that led to the arrest.

Camden and New Jersey State Police arrived to take in Wint, but the suspect tried to flee, according to reports. Finding the house surrounded, Wint, who also goes by “Launce” and “Turtle,” fled back into the home, armed himself with a rifle and hid in a closet, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

No shots were fired and Wint was taken into custody. He was lodged in the Camden County Jail on $1 million bail.

Wint now faces two murder charges in connection with the killings of Kevin Miller and Tyrone Newman. Miller, 19, was gunned down in Camden June 8. Newman was stabbed to death in Warminster, PA, on July 24.

According to authorities, John T. Briggs, 24, of Camden, also is wanted in connection with Newman’s slaying. He has not been located, and there is a reward for his capture.
