Trucker in Tracy Morgan Crash Faces Charges Due to 1997 Camden County Incident
An accident that claimed the life of a Sewell woman in 1997 lead to the charges Kevin Roper faces following the Tracy Morgan accident over the weekend, My9NJ reports.
A truck driver faces charges in a fatal accident that killed a Peekskill, N.Y. man and left Tracy Morgan criticially injured because of an incident that happened in South Jersey in the mid-90s, My9NJ reports.
In 1997, a truck driver who had not slept in more than 30 hours caused an accident that killed Maggie McDonnell, a Sewell resident. He received a $200 fine and a suspended license because there was no law in place, according to the report.
The accident took place in Camden County, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
Sen. President Stephen Sweeney sponsored a bill that was passed in 2003, calling for anyone who was driving after being awake for more than 24 hours to be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Kevin Roper, 35, of Jonesboro, Ga. didn't sleep for 24 hours before the crash that claimed the life of James McNair. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Wednesday.
