Twins From Sewell Charged in Death of Man Hit by Car in Paulsboro

Robert Springer and Jessica Springer are charged in connection with the death of Eddie Lee Warthen, who was hit by a car in Paulsboro on Sunday.

A pair of twins from Sewell have been charged in connection with the death of a 30-year-old Gibbstown man who was hit by a car in Paulsboro on Sunday, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday evening.

Robert Springer, 25, was charged with with murder and related offenses. He is believed to be the driver of the vehicle. According to law enforcement officials, he was in possession of a handgun, but there was no mention of its use in the death of Eddie Lee Warthen, 30, of Gibbstown.

An investigation by the Paulsboro Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office led to charges being filed against Springer and his twin sister, Jessica Springer.

Warthen was struck by a four-door sedan twice at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning on East Madison Street in Paulsboro. A resident reported the incident.

Warthen was transported to Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. An autopsy determined his death was the result of a traumatic injury.

“These timely arrests would not have occurred without the fine police work of the Paulsboro Police Department and the GCPO,” Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said.

Robert Springer is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon  (a handgun), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution.  He is being held in default of $500,000 bail.

Jessica Springer is charged with tampering with evidence and hindering.  She is being held in default of $10,000 bail.

The Chevrolet Malibu believed to be involved in the incident and the discarded weapon that resulted in charges against Robert Springer have been recovered.

Robert and Jessica Springer live together in Sewell. Robert Springer is unemployed and Jessica Springer works as a dancer at bachelor parties, police said.
