Tyren Ali Deemed 'Career Offender,' Sentenced to Lengthy Prison Term

A West Deptford man whom a judge deemed a "career offender" will serve 17 years in federal prison for drug trafficking. 

Tyren Ali, 30, was sentenced Monday before U.S. District Court Judge Noel L. Hillman in Camden, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. 

Ali had previously pleaded guilty to an indictment that alleged he conspired with his brother, Kevin Grant, and others to distribute more than 28 grams of crack cocaine from March 2011 to May 19, 2011. 

Ali actually sold 88 grams of crack cocaine to a confidential police informant, using his brother and the others to distribute it, authorities said. 

Grant has pleaded guilty in the case, and is awaiting sentencing. 

Ali has an extensive criminal history, including five prior felony drug offenses including dealing drugs in a school zone, and because of this, Hillman deemed him a "career offender," allowing the judge to impose a longer sentence. Ali also was ordered to serve five years of supervised release and to pay $3,990 in restitution.
