Hydrant Vandals Strike

West Deptford Police have been busy investigating a series of vandalism incidents in town.

  • The passenger tire of a vehicle was flattened by a sharp object on Jan. 5 while parked in the White Swan Trailer Park. The owner of the vehicle signed a criminal mischief complaint against a 48-year-old male who also lives in the complex.
  • The middle of a mailbox was dented after a juvenile damaged it with his hand on Jan. 6. Another juvenile also threw trash on the front lawn of the same residence, located on Woodbury Terrace.
  • A fire hydrant was removed from the ground by vandals and then left at the scene on Jan. 8. The fire hydrant was located on Crown Point Road.
  • A Mazda Protégé was recovered, after being stolen from Woodhollow Drive in Forest Creek Apartments on Jan. 9. The vehicle was recovered a short time later on Timberline Drive and sustained no damage.

I'm trying to picture vandals removing a fire hydrant and then leaving it at the scene. What about the hundreds of gallons of water that would be spewing up out of the ground while they were removing it>
