Thieves Target Unlocked Cars, Steal Cash, Electronics

Plus, West Deptford Police charge a township man with a $2,000 jewelry theft in the latest crimelog.

West Deptford police reported the following incidents occurred in the township within the past week.

  • On April 26, a resident of N. Roosevelt Blvd advised that her vehicle, valued at $5,000, had been stolen from the driveway of her residence.
  • That same day, a representative of Verizon Wireless reported damage to one of the company buildings located at Jessup Road. The building reportedly had visible damage on a wall and appeared to have been moved off its footings.
  • On April 27, a resident of Apple Lane reported that her unlocked vehicle had been entered and that the contents of her purse—$450, her driver license, and assorted credit cards—had been removed from the rear seat.
  • On April 29, a resident of Ford Avenue reported that her unlocked vehicle had been entered and approximately $5 in change, along with the vehicle registration, was removed from it.
  • Another resident of Ford Avenue also reported that his unlocked vehicle also had been entered that day, and approximately $20 in change was removed. A second vehicle at his home had also been entered, but nothing seemed to have been taken from it.
  • On April 29, a resident of Delaware Street reported discovering a scratch to the exterior of his motor vehicle that had been sustained at some point overnight.
  • On April 30, a pair of unlocked vehicles on Lancing Road was burglarized. Stolen from one was an iPod valued at $200 plus $10 in cash. Nothing was taken from the other.
  • That same night, another unlocked vehicle was burglarized on Red Bank Court; nothing was taken from within. A TomTom GPS valued at $200 was stolen from a fourth vehicle on Red Bank Avenue that same night. Police have no suspects.
  • On May 1, $2,000 of jewelry was taken from a home on Lancing Road; police have charged 24-year-old Glenn T. Murdock with theft in the incident. He was lodged in the Gloucester County correctional facility.
  • On May 2, a $400 laptop was reported stolen from West Deptford Middle School.
