West Deptford Man Pulled from Delaware After Animal Rescue Attempt

Police said that Andrew Reddin was trying to save a deer from the current and ended up needing to be pulled out himself.

In 20 years, he'd never heard of anything like it, said West Deptford Acting Chief of Police Samuel DiSimone.

But at 10:07 the call came in that a man was floundering in the Delaware River, and emergency services crews went into action.

According to DiSimone, 37-year-old Andrew Reddin of West Deptford dove into the river at RiverWinds Point to save a deer that had appeared to be struggling in the current.

"Then the diver starts having trouble in the current, so the [Thorofare] fire department water and rescue crew had to be called to get him out of there," he said.

Reddin was extracted from the water, unharmed, thanks to the seasonable temperatures of the day.

DiSimone also confirmed that Reddin had not been hunting during the episode, but added that authorities "have not seen the deer."
