West Deptford Police Crack Greenfield Heights Burglaries

Three men were arrested and charged this week in two separate incidents.

West Deptford police this week arrested three men involved in a pair of burglaries earlier this month in the Greenfield Heights section of the township.

James P. Nelson, 26, of Pitman, and Dale W. Troughton, 25, of Deptford were arrested on Nov. 16 and charged with a break-in at a home on Cambridge Drive on Nov. 10. The pair allegedly went to the home of an acquaintance of Troughton, slipped in an unlocked back door and stole an Xbox and Playstation from the home.

West Deptford Det. Richard Henry checked with local used video game dealers and found the systems, which Troughton and Nelson had pawned.

Nelson was charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy, and released on a summons, while Troughton faces charges of conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to commit theft, and was lodged in the county jail on default of his bail, which was $10,000, 10 percent cash.

Then, on Nov. 17, West Deptford police busted Christopher Cooper, 30, of West Deptford, for a break-in at a home on Lauderdale Drive on Nov. 11, where he allegedly stole about $1,000 worth of jewelry.

As with the other burglary, police said Cooper was friends with the homeowner. Cooper sold the jewelry at a local cash-for-gold dealer, which led to his identification.

Cooper was charged with burglary and theft, and was released on a summons.

In both burglaries, the stolen items were confiscated and returned to their owners.
