Cianfarini, Chintall Call Dems' Plan a Carbon Copy

The Republicans dismissed their opponents' pledge as a desperate act.

West Deptford Republican township committee candidates Ray Chintall and Sam Cianfarini blasted their Democratic opponents’ campaign platform Wednesday night, calling it remarkably similar to their own position.

“It sounds like a desperate attempt to rebrand their crumbling organization, which has had over two decades of control of the fiscal house that they claim is not in order,” said Chintall in a release.

Chintall slammed West Deptford Democratic Party chair Gerry White, who previously served as the township’s administrator for a 14-year span, as one of the orchestrators of the fiscal woes the Democrats pledged to solve in their campaign promises.

Cianfarini questioned whether the Democrats, who have been in power during the increase in the township’s debt and ensuing financial difficulties, are more qualified than he and Chintall, who he pointed don’t have to answer to party bosses.

“Who are you going to believe will bring the change West Deptford Township desperately needs?” said Cianfarini.

A portion of Chintall and Cianfarini’s plan is to audit the township government, make township government more transparent to residents, eliminate taxpayer-funded health benefits for the township committee, impose a term limit of three terms for township committee members and reduce and cap committee members’ pay to a $5,000 stipend–much the same as what Democrats Hunter Kintzing and Denice DiCarlo pledged, in halving committee pay, placing a moratorium on debt and wiping out health benefits for elected officials.

“We challenge our opponents to explain how they plan to implement their plan if elected,” Chintall and Cianfarini said, noting that new committee members would join current mayor Anna Docimo and committee member Donna Szymborski, who have both been a part of the governments responsible for the township’s $100-million-plus debt.

“If we allow Kintzing and DiCarlo to join them, we will just have more of the same leadership from the West Deptford Democrats as we have had for the past two decades,” Chintall and Cianfarini said.
