Donna Szymborski, Sean Kilpatrick Not Seeking Reelection

The Democratic Committeewoman and Republican Deputy Mayor were not among those filing petitions to appear on the November ballot for township committee.

Local chapters of the two big political parties will put up fresh slates for their respective primaries in the West Deptford Township Committee election this June.

Incumbent Democratic Committeewoman Donna Szymborski and Republican Deputy Mayor Sean Kilpatrick were not among those names presented by the 4 p.m. filing deadline April 1.

Instead, the Democrats will be represented by James Robinson Jr. and Adam Reid.

The Republican primary candidates will be Jeff Hansen and Gerald P. Maher. The partisan committee is holding elections for two open seats this year.

Robinson is vice-chairman of the Township Zoning Board; Reid is the grandson of former West Deptford mayor and Committeeman Robert Reid.

Hansen chairs the RiverWinds Advisory Board, serves on the township planning board, and ran unsuccessfully on the committee Republican ticket in 2012. Maher serves on the zoning board and has volunteered for 33 years at the Colonial Manor Fire Association, nine of which he served as chief.

Kilpatrick told Patch his decision not to run was “really just more for me to take the time to develop personally and professionally, and that he's "not at all ruling out" a return to public office "at some point in the future."

Calls to Szymborski's home were not immediately returned.

The primary elections will be held from 6 a.m to 8 p.m on June 4, 2013. All polling places from the November 2012 elections have not been changed.

Committee members serve three-year terms. Two more commissioners' terms will expire in 2014 and another in 2015.

As part of the consolidations and efficiencies driven by the 2-percent budget cap, the West Deptford school board elections will also be held in November 2013.
