Five Things: Schools, Meetings Video and Fundraising for the K-9 Unit

Here are five quick hits from what's going on from now through the weekend locally.

1. West Deptford’s public schools are now on Twitter—@westdeptford—giving you another way to keep track of what’s happening locally. Their feed will have emergency messages (handy if you want to subscribe via text message), district news bulletins and other important information.

2. One of their first tweets was about this weekend’s Pops and Pasta Dinner Concert, featuring performances by the high school music program, at the middle school Saturday night, which runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors, and will be available at the door.

3. If you want to know where your tax money is going–and just under half of your property taxes go to the school district–come out to the Board of Education’s budget workshop, which is open to the public, next Saturday, March 12, at 9 a.m. The actual board vote on the school budget will take place March 28, at the official public hearing for the 2011-12 budget.

4. Miss a township committee meeting? Good news: There will be video online, first at concernedresidentsofwestdeptford.com and later at wdtruth.org, thanks to the passage of a resolution officially establishing video recording Thursday night.

5. Terry’s Tropical Tans is holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for the spring season, as well as a benefit for the West Deptford Police’s K-9 unit. Terry’s is including free tans with various donation levels, and proceeds go toward equipment for the K-9 squad. Plus, there’s a free wine tasting and snacks during the weekend.
