Free Income Tax Assistance Offered at United Way

Starting Feb. 4, residents can schedule an appointment for free assistance with income tax returns in Thorofare.

Need a little help with those pesky income tax returns?

Good news—starting Feb. 4 households with low or moderate incomes can get free filing assistance.

The program is a combined effort through the United Way of Gloucester County and AARP. The United Way office—located in Thorofare—is one of six buildings in Gloucester County that will have an on-hand AARP volunteer to assist Gloucester County residents in the filing process. All volunteers have been trained and passed the Internal Revenue Service’s tax preparer’s certification test.

Going into its fourth year, the program helped more than 1,700 taxpayers and saved them nearly $250,000 in filing fees in 2012. Each site will offer free online tax filling to help expedite the process.

Due to varying schedules, walk-ins will not be accepted. All residents must call in advance to schedule an appointment at 856-845-4303, ext. 13.
