Glouco Library System Offers Help To Job Seekers

The library system is offering a series of free workshops covering areas such as networking and preparing for a job interview.

The Gloucester County Library System is offering a series of free workshops designed to help job seekers.

The programs are free, but advance registration is required. Participants can register by calling the branch library where a particular program is held, or through the events calendar on the library system's website, www.gcls.org

The workshops are being funded through a New Jersey Library Association cooperative effort with Project Connect.

The program schedule is as follows: 

  • Jan. 20, 11 a.m. at the Glassboro Branch – Library Resources for Job Seekers (presented by Nancy Polhamus of the library system staff)
  • Jan. 20, 6:30 p.m. at the Mullica Hill Branch – Effective Networking with Career Coach Karen Schneider. Learn to “work the room” at any kind of gathering and make contacts that can help you in your job search. 
  • Jan. 25, 1 p.m. at the East Greenwich Branch – Taking Charge of Your Future: Planning for a Successful and Rewarding Career. Taught by Career Consultant Susan Lonker.
  • Jan. 26, 6:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Branch – Exploring Career Options with business trainer and consultant Robert Marino. Learn to re-evaluate your skills and apply them to a new career path.
  • Jan. 27, 1pm at the Greenwich Branch – Stress is Here to Stay: Learning to Cope, Stay Calm, and Ban Burnout, presented by Susan Lonker.
  • Jan. 27, 6:30 p.m. at the Logan Branch – Creating a Marketable You. Learn to “sell yourself” and make the best possible impression. Presented by Robert Marino.
  • Jan. 27, 7 p.m. at the Glassboro Branch – Interviewing Basics presented by human resources professional Jim Thompson.
  • Feb. 3, 1 p.m. at the East Greenwich Branch – Developing Self-Esteem, Assertiveness, and Personal Motivation Skills presented by Susan Lonker.
  • February 8, 1 p.m. at the Logan Branch – Taking Charge of Your Future: Planning for a Successful and Rewarding Career presented by Susan Lonker.
  • Feb. 8, 7 p.m. at the Glassboro Branch – Resume Building for the Blue Collar Worker presented by Jim Thompson.
  • Feb. 15, 7 p.m. at the Glassboro Branch – Library Job Search resources (presented by Carol Dera of the library system staff)
  • Feb. 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Logan Branch – Effective Networking. Learn to “work the room” at any kind of gathering and make contacts that can help you in your job search. Presented by Karen Schneider.
  • Feb. 22, 7 p.m. at the Glassboro Branch – Interviewing Basics for Blue Collar Workers presented by Jim Thompson.
  • Feb. 25, 11am at the Greenwich Branch – Library Resources for Job Seekers (presented by Nancy Polhamus of the library system staff)

In addition to the workshops, the county library system's branches also offer free, one-hour computer classes.  Class topics include Basic Computer Skills, Intro to the Internet, and Microsoft Office Suite programs.    

“Our libraries are an outstanding resource for employment seekers and we want to make our residents aware of what is available to them,” said county Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger. The employment workshops "are presented by professionals whose advice and counsel can help them get ahead in this economic climate and competitive job market."
