Kintzing Hearing Date Pushed Back, Yet Again

After several postponements, former West Deptford Planning Board Chairman Scott Kintzing is still without a resolution to a lewdness charge against him.

Kintzing appeared Tuesday night in Maurice River Township municipal court. Judge John A. Casarow Jr. ordered the case heard in a special session to allot enough time for each side to present its case. 

After a brief conference with Kintzing’s attorney Jeffery V. Puff of Woodbury, Prosecutor Edward Duffy and Casarow—resulting in a court break—Casarow stated a special session is needed due to the brief nature of Tuesday night’s court session. The judge said he would give “as much latitude as permissible” to both sides during the special session.

No future date was announced immediately; Casarow left it up to the attorneys to come back with an acceptable date for a 9 a.m. special session. In addition, Casarow also asked Puff to draft a consent order on discovery issues.

Kintzing was charged on a summons with lewdness by the West Deptford Police after a female custodian reported she confronted an allegedly naked Kintzing behind Oakview Elementary School on Oct. 23. Kintzing was believed to be changing his clothes after participating in a basketball game that night. Kintzing drove off after he was confronted by the custodian. No children were present at the time.

Kintzing was served a summons on Nov. 12, following an investigation by police. West Deptford Police Chief Craig Mangano confirmed that security footage of the incident does exist.    

Due to a potential conflict of interest, the case was initially transferred to Mantua Township before ending up in Maurice River.   

“To quote Shakespeare, this is much ado about nothing,” said Puff on Tuesday night, but declined to comment further on the case.

However, Puff maintained that he is optimistic about the case and believes it will end in a favorable ruling for his client.

Kintzing declined to comment Tuesday about the hearing or impending charge.

Kintzing, after 31 years of service, was not reappointed to the Planning Board after his term expired the beginning of this year. West Deptford Mayor Raymond Chintall said his decision to not reappoint Kintzing was not based on the charge, but rather a desire to shuffle up members of the board.

In addition, Kintzing has also been a member of the Rowan University Foundation Board of Directors since 2008.
