Marlton Couple to be Sentenced in $2.6 Million Travel Scam

A Marlton couple that pleaded guilty to charges of theft by deception in August will be sentenced on Friday in Burlington County Superior Court.

Daryl Turner and Robyn Bernstein will be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Terrence R. Cook. The Attorney General’s Office will recommend Turner be sentenced to seven years in prison and Bernstein be sentenced to five years after they pleaded guilty to stealing $2.6 million from customers by selling them phony vacation travel membership packages.

They must also repay the money they stole from their victims.

The couple admitted they ran eight different companies that scammed hundreds of travel customers out of thousands of dollars by selling fake vacation packages and collecting fees on free promotional airfares and cruises that never materialized for the victims.

Turner and Bernstein would close one company as victims figured out they were being scammed. They ran the eight companies over a four-year period.

They sent out postcards to large numbers of people that would offer free cruises or airfare, followed by a high-pressured sales pitch.

The couple ran companies under the names Away We Go Promotions, LLC, Dreamworks Vacation Club, Five Points Travel Company, Vacation Clubs LLC (doing business as La Bonne Vie Travel), Bentley Travel, Blue Water Gateway, Modern Destinations Unlimited and VIP Executives, LLC.

Companies were based out of Cherry Hill, Marlton, Parsippany and Manalapan, as well as out-of-state postal drop boxes.
