Need a Job? Gloucester County Holding Career Workshops, Job Fair

More than 50 employers will attend the job fair on March 8.

Gloucester County submitted the following news release:

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Heather Simmons announced that two free Career Workshops will be held at the end of the week and a Career Resource Event will be held on March 8, 2013 to help area residents find employment.

The Career Workshops are designed to help residents enhance their marketability to employers through learning to use social media for job searches, improving interviewing skills and resume presentation. The workshops will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. and on Friday, March 1 at 9 a.m.

Both will be held at Gloucester County College, CAP Center, College Center Building, 2nd Floor, Tanyard Road in Sewell. The workshops are free, but registration is required by visiting www.wibnj.com.

“We want to give our residents every advantage in getting their next job or promotion,” Damminger said. “The strategies and skills involved with resumes writing, interviews and using social media are constantly evolving."

Damminger said the Feb. 28 and March 1 workshops should be able to help residents “put their best foot forward at the County’s Career Resource Event on March 8” from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m.

Fifty employers are scheduled to participate in the Career Resource event on March 8 to be held in the gymnasium of Gloucester County College. The event is a showcase of area employers who are accepting resumes for current and future positions. Information and support services about child care, health care and unemployment benefits will also available at the event.

Simmons, liaison to the Department of Economic Development, said, “This event will provide access to at least fifty employers at one time. As a result of the event we held last October, 40 residents gained employment. Providing access to jobs and getting our residents working is our priority.”

Simmons said that the response the event garners from the businesses that recruit at the Career Resource Event is always positive.

Karen Schneider of Wedgewood Pharmacy, one of the largest compounding pharmacies in the United States, located in Swedesboro, is once again participating in the Career Resource Event on March 8. “The event is well run and we are always pleased with the caliber of participants,” said Schneider.

The Career Workshops on February 28 and March 1, and the Career Resource Event on March are free. Register for the workshops online or by calling 856-384-6963. Registration is not required for the March 8 Career Resource Event.
