Op-Ed: Sweeney Needs to Ditch Trash Talk

Republican challenger says the political rhetoric needs to be cleaned up.

Today is the Fourth of July holiday, a special holiday for Americans. The Fourth of July stands as a day each year that promotes for all to see and hear freedom as the prime ideal of the American exceptionalism. America is truly a special place. The “land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Freedom is indeed sacred. Should elected officials receive cover by argument of freedom of speech for demeaning personal insults? Does a license or privilege exist for a serving officeholder to publicly insult this state’s governor by use of foul “locker room” talk?

N.J. Senate President Sweeney is quoted in Tom Moran’s article from the Star-Ledger to have said the following “no class” things about Gov. Christie.

“He’s a rotten prick,” says the Senate President about Gov. Christie, according to Mr. Moran.

“It’s like a bank robber taking hostages,” according to Sen. Sweeney. “And now he’s starting to shoot people.”

Please clean it up, Senator. Leave that kind of trash talk in the mean streets where you learned it.
