Sunoco Donates $750K Toward West Deptford Fire Trucks

With fire trucks the center of much political debate, West Deptford receives pledge from Sunoco.

After heated arguments at the Sept. 20 town committee meeting, it looks as if West Deptford fire departments will get new fire trucks after all.

On Thursday, Sept. 27 the Sunoco Foundation pledged to donate a total of $750,000 toward the purchase on new fire trucks for the township. The money will come as two payments of $375,000 within a year of each other.

The money will go to both the Verga and Colonial Manor fire companies and will be used to purchase new fire engines and fire rescue engines.

“We are committed to providing first-rate service to our community, and this money will provide us with newer and up to date fire apparatus to meet that commitment, which will benefit all the residents of our township,” said Chief Kevin Nordaby.

Fire trucks in West Deptford have become the new topic of political debate in West Deptford, after Committeeman Samuel Cianfarini accused Committeewoman Denice DiCarlo of taking a lesser cash settlement from Sunoco, instead of one that would include new fire trucks for the town, for personal glory.

Cianfarini stated at the town committee meeting on Sept. 20 that Sunoco had offered to include $1 million worth of new fire trucks in the Eagle Point tax appeals settlement, but said the settlement was scraped by DiCarlo who wanted to put her own name on the deal.

“Denice put her own needs above the needs of the community,” said Cianfarini.

DiCarlo defended her role in the Sunoco settlement, saying that nothing on fire trucks was ever finalized by the attorney. She maintained that she was told the fire trucks could not be papered and that the attorney said they must go for cash.

“I appreciate your absolute and unfailing lies,” DiCarlo retorted to Cianfarini following his accusations on Sept. 20.

DiCarlo referred to the June 14 closed session minutes, which show there were talks of fire trucks, but no final resolution. DiCarlo says that along with bringing unfounded the attacks on herself, Cianfarini’s comments also brought the fire companies into the mix.

“Our firefighters should not be pulled into the political stream,” said DiCarlo.

Yet with all arguments aside, DiCarlo maintains it was a bipartisan effort and gives credit to Mayor Raymond Chintall for his work on the Sunoco settlement.

Looks like a win win all around. The settlement was lowered a little, Denice can take some credit on that, Sunoco agrees to $750,000 for 2 new fire trucks, Ray and Sam can take credit for that and at the end of the day, the winners are the tax payers of West Deptford which is what all of you should be working for. Now if we could just get Donna and Sean to actually do something with a value to us, we will be on to something. Thanks Ray, Denice and Sam........the town and tax papers are better off due to your work. Now can we just continue that effort with a little less grandstanding?

Donna can take credit for being out of the loop. Sean can take credit for making the township pay for fireworks we never got to use. Wait, I got it, maybe we can light them up when we receive the new fire engines. Yeah! "That's the Ticket"

Sam can be credited with setting an unprecedented number of lies in his first year on committee and Denise can be credited with continuing to tell the truth and represent the residents in a professional manner. Once again DiCarlo was correct.

Denise can also be credited for being a CPA she claims is the truth, Just provide the number... Mr. Mooseknuckles, You want the truth? Can you handle the truth? She has no CPA... and that's the TRUTH.

You don't have to be a Rhode scholar to know Donna and Denice were against the Sunoco deal from the get go so they acted in concert because they knew we needed the fourth vote. To illustrate my point, they sent out letters to the community's, tried and failed to organize petitions and had Sweeney comment and pass anti-business legislation. These self-serving acts just delayed a settlement which could have taken place in February. If this had been done, we would have been able to work in good faith with the Sunoco foundation and would have saved time, money and resources. Donna and Denice are perfect examples of how inefficient government can be when personal gain is put before community interest. Anyone who understands numbers( the banker and the supposed CPA) will tell you that the final bipartisan concessions were a drop in the bucket in comparison to the overall deal.

Saving time and money is not now nor ever was on the Democrats agenda, lessen it was for a special share of the monies (saved)? This Sunoco deal was nothing more then a Democrtic slush fund as is the Golf course fiascos

Well I rather have somebody like Donna and Denice who, by the way, could have saved us more money if the two geniou's had took time to listen then chastise Denice! By the way , I do not care if Denice got a CPA license or not she got the job done!!!

WDNeedsHelp October 01, 2012 at 03:04 PM
Please see www.wdtruth.org where the meeting minutes and emails are posted showing that DiCarlo did in fact admit to losing the deal. Can't argue your own words and the email from the attorney on the case.
WDNeedsHelp October 01, 2012 at 03:16 PM
www.wdtruth.org has posted the documents related to the meetings and emails regarding the fire trucks. They clearly show the fire trucks were on the table and DiCarlo clearly jumped into the deal and demanded her name be put on it to buy her and Donna's votes. Being the Jerry Whites puppet screwed her this time, because she told Sunoco to remove any standing deals and put in her 1 million "deal" to purchase her vote. It took Chintall and Cianfarini's efforts to get the truck deal done after DiCarlo blew it. This is excatly the person we DO NOT need representing the fine people of West Deptford.
Wayne Klotz October 01, 2012 at 06:04 PM
Redneckwillie3, please grow up and be a man and admit that you and your fan Club do not have a clue about anything! We're you at the last meeting when Sam argued with Denice ? If you were, why not use your real name now, willie

Ms.burgoon, you do not like some of the comments ! I do not either when it comes from ignorant people like redneckwillie3 who made comments about me! Did you delete him?! No because his comments are still here! I keep my comments clean unlike these people!!!
Lauren Burgoon October 01, 2012 at 06:49 PM
Wayne, I haven't deleted comments on this thread today. When a certain number of users flag them, they are removed from the site. (Only one flag per account registers so 1 user cannot force this action.) The user also has the option to delete them, although in your case it doesn't sound like that's happening.
