Thursday's West Deptford Gov't Agenda Includes Replacement of Twp. Admin.

The Republican-dominated committee will be sworn in on the second day of the new year, and expects to waste no time in removing Eric Campo.

Thursday marks the swearing-in of the new Republican supermajority government of the West Deptford township committee, and the group intends to waste no time in wielding its power.

Among the agenda items prescribed for the Thursday meeting, which is chockablock with new appointments, is the planned removal of township administrator Eric Campo.

Campo was a vocal adversary of the Republican-driven cuts to the 2013 municipal budget, including its surplus spend-down.

He told Patch that he was advised by Mayor Ray Chintall as to the content of the agenda on Tuesday, and found it "not entirely unexpected."

"We did the best we could under difficult circumstances," Campo said, adding that the six-plus years he has worked for the township have given him "the opportunity to work with some of the best people I have ever known.

"We've done an awful lot of things and made a lot of progress," he said. "The town has decided they want to go in a different direction."

In anticipation of the outcome of the vote, Campo said his first concern is to find a new job.

Elected officials did not respond to requests for comment on Tuesday.

The committee meets Thursday at 7 p.m. in the township municipal building.
