West Deptford Committee Cancels Thursday Meeting

The next time the committee will gather is July 25.

Round two of the 2013 West Deptford budget hearings will have to wait at least another week to be resolved.

According to a notice published on the township website, there won't be enough commissioners available to gather a quorum for the July 18 date.

Instead, the meeting has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. next Thursday, July 25, at the township municipal building.

July has been an uncommon month for meeting scheduling, even as the town budgeting process drags on.

In advance of the Fourth of July holiday, the township committee called a special Tuesday session on July 2 in order to formally amend its proposed 2013 budget to include $3.6 million in surplus spending.

Then the two-part, public hearing on the adjourned budget—the one without the proposed surplus spending—that happened at the July 11 meeting was to have been followed up with a back-to-back Thursday meeting on the 18th.

The extra week should offer an opportunity to lend clarity on the process, however; at the July 11 meeting, CFO Brenda Sprigman stated that she would be working up a three-to-five-year forecast on the economic impact of the surplus spending, which should be part of the committee agenda for July 25.
