West Deptford Officials Say Reorganization Could Shift to WDHS

In the event of an overflow crowd, West Deptford officials have a backup plan in the works.

With an overflow crowd a real possibility for tonight’s , West Deptford officials have worked out a plan to handle a big turnout.

Township administrator Eric Campo said Wednesday there have been discussions with police and fire officials about concerns related to a large crowd, and with the help of school district administrators, they’ve secured the auditorium as a backup location.

“In the event that the fire official has a concern with exceeding the occupancy, we have a plan in place,” Campo said.

The main meeting room has a capacity of about 220 people, including standing room, and was mostly filled at last year’s reorganization.

Moving the meeting to the high school would roughly triple the capacity.

“We’ve handled large meetings before,” Campo said. “We’re ready for any contingency.”

Campo said police and fire officials will keep an eye on the crowd ahead of the 7 p.m. start for the reorganization, and a decision to shift things to the high school could be made at any point ahead of the reorganization.
