The ebook tells of four different stories that take place along the WD section of the Mantua Creek, no known as First Avenue.  The first story takes place during the Revolutionary War, the second during he 1918 flu pandemic, the third during Vietnam, and the fourth is the present.  Each story depicts the love, sorrow, and struggles of families in the area, as well as showing how the area changed over two centuries.

Interesting fact:  The photo cover of the book is actually a picture of the flooding of First Avenue during hurricane Irene.  The picture is not the creek itself, it is the creek covered street, where the children get the bus stop.
