West Deptford Boys', Girls' Soccer Score Home Playoff Games

The boys are seeded No. 5 and girls No. 4 in South Jersey, Group 2.

The West Deptford boys' and girls' soccer teams got some good news Wednesday night when the NJSIAA released the 2011 brackets: they both get to open at home when the playoffs start next week.

The boys’ team overcame a slow start to the season to rise to the No. 5 seed in South Jersey, Group 2, and will open against No. 12 Collingswood on Tuesday. The two teams compete in the same conference and have met twice already this season. West Deptford has had little trouble in those matches, claiming 4-1 and 5-1 victories.

If West Deptford defeats Collingswood for a third time, it will advance to face the winner of No. 4 Middle Township and No. 13 Buena. A familiar foe could then be waiting in the semifinals; Haddonfield, which defeated West Deptford twice this season, 2-0 and 1-0, earned the No. 1 seed.

Also earning a Group 2 playoff spot from the Colonial Conference are No. 3 Haddon Heights and No. 8 Sterling.

The West Deptford girls, meanwhile, earned the No. 4 seed and will open at home against No. 13 Buena on Monday. The Buena Chiefs play out of the Cape-Atlantic League and own a record of 9-8. The only common opponent between the two teams is Gateway. The Chiefs defeated the Gators 2-0, while the West Deptford beat Gateway, 3-0.

If West Deptford wins its first-round contest, it will host the winner of No. 5 Pemberton and No. 12 Willingboro. A win in that game could set up a match against Haddonfield, who is also No. 1 on the girls’ side. The Bulldawgs defeated West Deptford by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 this season.

Other Colonial Conference teams competing in the Group 2 playoffs are No. 7 Haddon Heights and No. 11 Sterling.
