Boys' Soccer Left Playing the Waiting Game

West Deptford's game against Paulsboro is called for lack of refs.

Players for the West Deptford High School boys’ soccer team arrived at Paulsboro, stretched, jogged, passed the ball around and went through every other phase of a traditional pregame warm-up.

All that was left to do was wait.

And wait.

The waiting finally came to an end at 4:15 Thursday afternoon when it was announced that the scheduled game between West Deptford and Paulsboro would have to be moved to a later date because no referees showed up for the assignment. No immediate date has been set for the make up.

It marked the second time this week that the Eagles saw a scheduled game go unplayed. West Deptford was scheduled to take on Haddon Heights Tuesday, but heavy rains and high winds washed away any hopes of getting it in.

Assuming Mother Nature or scheduling mistakes don't intervene again, the Eagles will be back in action Saturday against Eastern in West Deptford Park, at 7 p.m. The Eagles will be looking to extend their winning streak to three games.

West Deptford responded from a 2-1 loss Haddonfield last Monday with a 3-1 win over Woodbury and 5-0 victory over Collingswood. Joe Mingrino, Zach Kaestner and Kevin Keane each had two goals over that span.
