Budd Fourth at State Group 2 Meet
The West Deptford senior beat her sectional mark by more than half a second.
The good news for Samantha Budd was that she blistered past her sectional championship-winning 800-meter time by nearly a second at the state Group 2 meet at Toms River Saturday.
The bad news for Budd was that the field set an even faster pace, with two girls breaking the 2:20 mark, leaving the West Deptford senior to settle for fourth place.
Rumson's Shannon McCarthy (2:19.72) and Ramapo's Deanna DiLandro (2:19.78) dueled for the title, while Delsea's Celine Mazzi, who finished second to Budd at the South Jersey meet, was third in 2:20.20.
