As many towns begin to celebrate Black History Month, commemoration at Gloucester County College (GCC) is well underway with a new art gallery highlighting works from distinguished African American artists.
Sponsored by the South Jersey Chapter of LINKS, Inc.—an international nonprofit organization dedicated to volunteer service—the exhibit features an array of talents from prominent African American artists from New Jersey and the surrounding regions. The exhibit is open through March 8.
More than a dozen artists in and out-of-state are featured in the exhibit. Artists from New Jersey include Theodore Bryant, Sonia Figueroa, Eddie Fontno, H. Alonzo Jennings, Gary Moore, Leon Rainbow and Leonard Wilkinson.
Among the list of out-of-state artists are three founding members of Sharp With Art Group (S.W.A.G.) Cyril “Stylez with Smilez” Bullard, Haneef “Neef” Robinson and Joel “Jae Martin” Cox.
In addition, works from Jennifer Hudnell, Kira Dixon and Toni Kersey will also be on display.
With more than 12,000 professional women of color belonging to the foundation, LINKS, Inc. has joined forces with GCC for more than 40 years to award the Legendary LINKS Scholarship to worthy students.
The art gallery can be found in the Dr. Ross Beitzel Art Gallery on GCC's campus 1400 Tanyard Rd. in Deptford. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
