Kate Cargill was elected unanimously as the new President of the West Deptford Board of Education at its annual reorganization meeting Monday night.

Cargill was first elected to the board in April of 2011. This is the first time she will be its president.

Former Board President Chris Strano chose not to run for reelection in November.

David Kline was elected as the Vice President of the Board, also earning the unanimous approval of all nine board members. Kline was first elected to the board in January 2013.

Also at Monday night’s meeting, Steven Catando and Cheryl Carroll were sworn in as the two newest members of the Board, while Lisa Eckley was sworn in for another term.

Kline was named the West Deptford School District representative to the New Jersey School Boards Association. Board Member Thomas Lee was named the district representative to the Gloucester County School Boards Association.

Committee appointments will be made at the next meeting.

The board also resolved to allow the Rutgers University-Camden track and field team to use the high school track for practice twice a week between Jan. 7 and May 22 at a charge of $275 a month. The team is expected to use the track for 16 hours during that time.

Previous concerns included the cost of lights. Initially, Superintendent of Schools Kevin Kitchenman said the University planned to make a contribution to the school district, but that there had been no value attached to that contribution.

One resident raised the possibility of a light bulb being broken due to prolonged use because of the Scarlet Raptors’ use of the track. Kitchenman said the cost offsets any potential damage, financially. He said the school district will not benefit financially from the arrangement.

The Scarlet Raptors’ track team, which is now coached by West Deptford High School teacher and former cross-country coach Mark Drummond, had been using the Haddon Township High School track.
