Keating Named Interim Head of Gloucester County College

The longtime school administrator will serve as interim president until a new permanent president can be selected.

The Gloucester County College Board of Trustees unanimously selected Frederick Keating, the college’s current vice-president of student services, as the school’s interim president at its meeting Wednesday night.

Keating, a longtime administrator who has previously served as superintendent of the Gloucester County Special Services School District and Gloucester County Institute of Technology, is filling the spot left vacant by Russell Davis, who resigned and was later .

“Keating was selected for his vision and experience. He is the best person for the position at this critical time,” Board of Trustees chair Gene Concordia said. “The college will benefit from his proven leadership and student-centered focus.”

Longtime trustee Virginia Scott said it was critical to bring in an interim president who can continue the college’s mission of an affordable, quality education and work to expand the college’s transfer agreements with four-year colleges, an area that’s seen growth over the past decade.

“Keating has been instrumental and effective in these efforts,” she said. “His leadership will ensure a forward momentum.”

Keating said he aims to do everything he can to continue that mission.

“I look forward to working closely with the faculty and staff to advance the college in these difficult financial times,” Keating said.

In addition to his work at Gloucester County College, Keating has also been an adjunct professor at LaSalle University and Rutgers University for the past 30 years, and most recently Camden County College. Keating earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The College of New Jersey, and is currently completing his doctoral studies at Widener University.

Keating will serve as interim president until a search committee is established and a new college president is selected.
