West Deptford’s Kevin Brockway fired an 83, good for a tie for 34th overall, to lead the Eagles at the annual Carl Arena/Al Rifkin Memorial Tournament at Running Deer in Pittgrove Township Wednesday.
Brockway was the low man on the Eagles by 10 strokes on the afternoon, as the team combined for a 364 and 19th place in the field.
Given their tough morning draw in damp, drizzly conditions, head coach John Cobb said it was a respectable finish.
“I thought Kevin had a solid outing,” Cobb said. “I would always like to do better.”
Freshman Richie Stolz fired a 93 on the course, which winds tight fairways through pinelands and features monster bunkers and waste areas—a challenge for golfers at any level, let alone a freshman, Cobb said.
“That’s a great performance for his first year in the tournament,” Cobbs said.
Matt Santarelli also fired a 93, and Ryan Henry carded a 95 to round out the Eagles’ scoring on the day.
St. Augustine’s Cody Danzen was the overall winner, shooting 71 to beat Washington Township’s Joe Russo and Cherry Hill East’s Vince Kwon by two strokes.
Cherokee, which combined to shoot 319, was the low team on the day.
