West Deptford standout Jamil Pollard won’t be joining the Nittany Lions when they start training this month. , the 6-5 defensive tackle has decided to transfer.
“R U ready for this?” he joked Friday before sharing his decision to transfer to Rutgers.
“This is the best choice for me at this point in my life,” Pollard explained of his decision. “I want a full college career. I want to experience everything, including the possibility of bowl games and post season games."
“Penn State is still a great school, and that won’t change. But I just have to do what’s best for me at this time,” he added.
Until last week, it seemed the recent grad was all about Penn State. The first recruit to commit to PSU since the Sandusky scandal first surfaced, Pollard was ready to lead the 2012-13 into the next era of football at the college.
What Pollard wasn’t ready to do, however, was give up his chance to play post-season ball. He said that several schools offered him the opportunity to play following the NCAA decision that released him from his commitment to PSU.
“I chose Rutgers because it’s close to home,” Pollard said.
Other schools, including Ohio State and Texas Tech, expressed interest in the four-star recruit, but Pollard preferred to stay nearby.
“A lot of great schools have offered me opportunities, but Rutgers is the right choice for me,” he said.
