Sports Week in Review/Preview

A look back and ahead at the week in West Deptford athletics.

The winter season continues to wind down, as only the girls' basketball team has a contest remaining on its schedule. The past seven days saw plenty of drama for the Green and White, much of it coming on the wrestling mat. Here is a look back–and ahead–at some of the bigger story lines.

Wrestling

Although were able to continue their season and advance to Atlantic City the Eagles did plenty right this past week. West Deptford had eight wrestlers compete at the Region 8 Tournament with seven picking up at least one victory. Drew Spector earned his and reached the podium (fourth place) for the third year in a row.

Girls' basketball

The NJSIAA South Jersey Group II playoffs get underway on Monday, with the No. 9 seed Eagles traveling to take on No. 8 Woodstown. The Eagles enter with plenty of momentum, as they are winners of four straight and seven of eight. Last week West Deptford picked up wins over Audubon (46-37), Gateway (61-53) and Glassboro (53-39). A win would likely set the Eagles up with a game against No. 1 Sterling. In two conference meetings this season, Sterling won by 24 and 29 points.
